Bring Out Your Inner Rockstar
The YAA Rock Band program is the real deal when it comes to preparing students for the ultimate music group experience.
In this program, students dive into various music styles while jamming alongside their talented peers. It’s all about creating that groovy group dynamic. They get a solid foundation in music instruction and technique. Plus, they’ll master the art of communication and rehearsal etiquette, because let’s face it, teamwork makes the dream work!
They’ll delve into music history, get hands-on experience in the recording studio, and learn the ins and outs of live performances. Bands get to perform cover songs that’ll have the crowd on their feet, and they can even show off their songwriting chops by composing original music. Talk about unleashing their creativity!

FAQ
What are the requirements to participate?
Students are required to practice 15-20 minutes each day on their own and listen to as much live and recorded music in the style of their band as possible. Due to the small collaborative nature of the rock band program, students are expected to focus on constructive communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution. Private lessons at YAA in addition to Rock Band are highly recommended, especially for beginning musicians.
How do you form the bands?
We take matching band members seriously. We carefully consider age, instruments played, music style, schedule, and instructor preference to create the perfect musical mix. Our goal is to make sure these kids mesh like peanut butter and jelly, creating a smooth and enriching experience for all.
What does registration include?
Registration in the Rock Band program includes:
-
Weekly rehearsal session with the bandmates and a YAA instructor
-
End of program recording sessions
-
Performance opportunities at Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito events, community events, and local music venues.
-
Access to other YAA programs such as private lessons, master classes, jam sessions, free tickets to area music and performing arts opportunities
-
Opportunity to perform at our annual fundraiser concert COMMOTION
Are masks still required?
The safety of our students and staff are of utmost priority. Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito and the Youth Arts Academy align our COVID-19 policies and guidelines with San Diego County’s guidelines for schools and childcare. Masks are no longer a requirement for employees, program participants or patrons inside any of our facilities. Masks are encouraged when county COVID-19 transmission rates are high but the choice to mask indoors will remain optional. We will continue to be supportive of participants, patrons, and employees regardless of their masking choice.
