Jazz band meets for hourly rehearsals every week (day/time TBD)
Cost
$825 total for the eight-month program
- $50 non-refundable registration fee
- $775 one-time fee for the session charged after the first rehearsal
*Scholarships and payment plans are available for those who qualify. Pro-rated fees are available for partial-year registration.

What are the requirements to participate?
Students should practice 15 – 20 minutes each day on their own and listen to as much live and recorded jazz music as possible. Due to the collaborative nature of the band programs, students are expected to focus on constructive communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution. Private lessons at YAA in addition to Jazz Band are highly recommended, especially for beginning musicians.
How are bands formed?
We do our absolute best to match band members to a band that is right for them. We carefully consider age, instrument, music style, schedule, skill level, and instructor preference to create the perfect musical mix. Our goal is to make sure these kids mesh like peanut butter and jelly, creating a smooth and enriching experience for all!
What does registration include?
Registration in the Jazz Band program includes:
- Weekly rehearsal session with bandmates and a YAA instructor
- Performance opportunities at Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego events, community events, and local music venues
- Access to other YAA programs such as private lessons, master classes, jam sessions, free tickets to area music and performing arts opportunities
- Free tickets to area music and performing arts opportunities
- The opportunity to perform at our annual fundraiser concert, COMMOTION!
